Group Orals

Group Oral Mark Scheme

Criterion A: Productive skills (5 marks)
How successfully does the student use the language in speech?
• How fluent and clear is the student’s speech?
• How accurate and varied is the language?
• How much does the student’s intonation aid communication?
 
Criterion B: Interactive and receptive skills (5 marks)
To what extent does the student understand and demonstrate an ability to interact in a conversation?
• How well can the student express ideas and opinions?

• How well can the student maintain a conversation?

Group Task 1.  This one is short - ten minutes to plan, ten minutes to discuss. 

1.The UK should always keep its’ borders open to refugees.
2.It’s a basic human right to allow people asylum.
3.Refugees bring a lot to a country.
4.Illegal immigrants bring too many dangers to a country.
5.People are crazy for the risks they take to move to a different country.

For each one
•make notes about what you want to say
•Find examples of articles and facts to support your point
•Find an example from the novel to support your point
•Discuss each question in groups of 3 or 4 

Group Task 2  -  this one is to do with the topic of 'Media and Communication.'

1.  Listen to the broadcast entitled:  Whys 60:  Anti-Japanese protests in China

A number of people talk about the dispute and put forward a number of arguments and explanations. 

1.                  Summarize the main incidents that have occurred according to the broadcast
2.                  Outline the main arguments as given by the contributors
3.                  One speaker outlines the ‘context’ – Explain the context
